T-Minus 24 hours for Gates of Antares

Dark Space Corp is a new company, founded by ex- Games Workshop stalwarts Rick Priestley and John Stallard, along with Rik Alexander.

The company was created to solely focus on building "Beyond the Gates of Antares".

And as they say its
"for you and with you, and our mission is to make it the best wargame universe that has ever existed. We have formed a partnership with Warlord Games who will help us produce and operate the game utilising their existing sales, warehousing and production infrastructure, so that we can focus on the game development, miniature design and community. Thanks to warlord we won’t have to worry too much about such things as production equipment, assembly lines and dispatch operations – we have all that covered already!"
The goal of Dark Space Corp is to bring the new Antarean universe to life by crowdsourcing the playtesting and rules creation alongside crowd funding through a Kickstarter campaign.

Others invovled include sculpters Kev White and Bob Naismith, designer Tim Prow (behind many of the top designs in the world of collectable miniatures and wargames as well as work for TV and films) Artists Opus Artz, Golum Painting Studios, Karol Rudyk – Slayer Sword winner, and Bruno LavallĂ©e – Slayer Sword winner
"We’ve got the team, we’ve got the know-how, now all we need is YOU!"
They are launching the Kickstarter on 1 January 2013 and are interested in finding out if the backers are interested in helping define the game rules, artwork, miniature range, tactical abilities, scenery, vehicles and everything else.

What is very interesting is that it is envisioned to be more than just another tabletop game.  Dark Space Corp  describe it as real time dynamic gaming,
"The Antarean gaming universe is not just a setting for a game – we want our game to be the first tabletop wargame based upon a living, changing and constantly evolving universe. We call it our Real Time Dynamic Gaming Universe – which is a rather grandiose way of saying ours is a living universe and not a static, immutable game setting. To achieve that we are going to create on-line gaming episodes – battles for worlds or star-spanning campaigns – which all players can join by logging onto our Beyond the Gates of Antares site. All you have to do is contribute your gaming results to one or more of the disputed zones on the world, orbital ring, shell, asteroid belt, star system or wherever it is the episode is taking place. You can play for any of the six factions: Concord Combined Command, Isorian Shard Command, The Free World Determinate, Shard Freebooters, ExCon Freebooters, or Vorl Orde. When we introduce new factions we will incorporate those too."
This looks to be a very, very interesting project.  Will you get involved?

Wee Gamers Review ... Warlord Games Ruined Hamlet

The ruined hamlet is perhaps very subtlety one of the cleverest kits for terrain we have seen in a long time.

Terrain tends to be expensive.

So while players oft have the very last word on armies they make do with what's at hand for their actual games. Yet much as the base makes the model so terrain makes the game.

Gygax is back!

"At the end of 2012 TSR and Gygax shall rise again" is a prophecy more implausible than the Mayan 'end of the world' thing everyone keeps talking about.  But there you go, IT is happening.  Not the end of the world bit (otherwise this won't really matter), the TSR/Gygax thing.

Wee Gamers review ... Battleboards

"You get what you pay for".  Normally that's used to embarrass someone over their foolishness at spending money on something that fails to live up to expectations or basically breaks when you look at it. But in terms of Battleboards the term means quite the opposite.

Even in communication with Richard at Battleboards you know you're dealing with someone who really cares, not only about what they do and their reputation, but about you and your satisfaction.

Gaming at the Morrow Bunker (20,21,22,&23 December)

Wee Gamers Review ... 4Ground 28mm damaged buildings

The moment you hold a 4Ground building you know you have something special in your hands.

This is one of the pre-painted range and the damaged detached house compliments the other houses of the 4Ground 28mm range.

If you have the undamaged building and, as the need arises, you can easily replace it with the damaged version (if you have both kits obviously) or you mix a selection of damaged and undamaged buildings  to populate your townscape.

Santa comes early with Kings of War update from Mantic

Kings of War is a tabletop fantasy wargame written by Alessio Cavatore for Mantic Games, designed for big battles with big armies.  The game is quick, easy to learn, bloody and, most important of all, fun.

Whilst it had been published in 2010 in playtest format, republished for playtest in 2011, in 2012 Ronnie and the crew sent this little beauty to Kickstarter in order to produce a final book.

And, by gum, what a final book it was too.  Wee Ivor isn't the sharpest tool in the box but he fell in love with KoW for its simplicity to learn, options for play and focus on fun.

Army Builder gives Bolt Action Players covering fire

For a number of years now tabletop miniatures gamers have been using Army Builder brand roster construction tool as often as their rules, glue and paint. The core programme has been developed by Lone Wolf Development with the community putting together data files relating to their own favoured tabletop system, be it Warhammer, Warhammer 40K, Flames of War, Dystopian Wars or any number of systems.

The Morrow Project comes out of cryogenics

Kickstarter is being used more and more for not only starting up new games, but also bringing back older games that we have all loved

One such Kickstarter project is that of The Morrow Project, which we have been following with interest for some time on Facebook.

And finally that labour of love has produced The Morrow Project 4th Edition which is now on Kickstarter.  It has already been fully funded and is now on to the stretch goals.  The Morrow Project 4th. Edition kickstarter project will fund the development costs and printing costs for the first run of books.

An Unexpected Journey to my bank manager

Well Games Workshop are at it again.  Selling us overpriced products that we will mumble and grumble about, make snide comment and then cave in and buy them.

This time it is The Hobbit (hitting our screens on 14th December), a licence they picked up as they have good form for miniaturising the Middle Earth franchise (having already done the Lord of the Rings).

Through the Breach - a Wyrd Kickstarter for a roleplaying game

Malifaux is a successful miniature tabletop game with a very flavoursome background, where gangs and guilds fight over land reached through a mysterious breach.  Kind of like a mash up of horror/wild west/steampunk.  Also a perfect setting for a roleplaying game.  Which is something Wyrd Miniatures, the makers of Malifaux, have also thought about.  They have decided to "Kickstart" the idea of a roleplaying game in the world of Malifaux.

Wee Gamers Presents ... Victory at Sea

Victory at Sea (shortened to VAS, for convenience) is a game of naval warfare originally set in the battles of WWII from the powerhouse of Mongoose Publishing.

The Age of Dreadnoughts expansion allows players to transfer their games back to WWI, when dreadnought battleships and their big-guns were the kings of the sea, before all those nasty carrier-borne aircraft and insidious submarines REALLY got going.

Wee JB takes a look at VAS and Age of Dreadnoughts..........

Gamers doing good - Lisburn Gaming Club's MacMillan Coffee morning

I went down to Lisburn Gaming Club recently as they were putting on a charity morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer.

Macmillan run what seems to be recognised as the largest coffee morning in the world.  And it was really great to see gamers doing good.  Lisburn Gaming Club are a bunch of lovely men and women who just love gaming.  They are a superb bunch and well worth a visit.  Visit their website and forum to keep up to date with what they are doing every Saturday.

In the end the club raised £67.45 for Macmillan and they should be congratulated for it. :)  Well done guys.

Kickstarting the games industry from October

In July Kickstarter tweeted that it would open up to UK-based projects for the first time this autumn.

Today Kickstarter announced that that day has finally arrived.

Beginning October 31, people in the UK will be able to launch their projects on Kickstarter.  But they don't have to wait that long to get themselves on the wagon for kickstarting their project.  People in the UK looking to crowdsource their funding can get started building their projects by clicking on the "Start a new project" button on the Start page and selecting the UK as their country.

The Blood Red Sun has risen and now mighty Armadas spill across the seas of the Drowned Republic.

Blood will flow and the seas turn red (Or maybe green or purple as the Orcs and Twilight Kin come to battle).

As ignorant armies clash by night upon the sandy beaches of destiny emipres will rise and empires will fall.

Empires seek to find their destiny during the Season of the Blood Red Dawns.

The Season of the Blood Red Dawns - Kings of War Campaign at Wee Gamers

SEASON OF THE BLOOD RED DAWN
(A Kings of War campaign)

The seasons of war are upon us. As you look out over your Island kingdom you realise that the clearing mists, burnt away by the blood red dawn sun, reveal your enemies stealing upon you.

Whether you are mighty warrior elves brooding in your high towers or doughty dwarves reclaiming fortress cities that once stood on mountaintops, but now sit nestled on islands in the Sea of the Drowned Republic; mayhap thou art mighty men of valour carving out a new kingdom in the islands; perhaps the living dead seeking to breath un-death into the lands you once ruled in life; OR worse yet nefarious Gobbos, Orcs or Twilight Kin seeking simply to conquer and destroy all around you.... PREPARE!

The Season of Blood Red Dawns are here.

Can you defend your Island kingdom and then expand and conquer the archipelago, building a chain of colonies subservient to your will?  OR will you become a mere servant, subject to the will of the Islands’ mighty overlord?

Wee Gamers Interview ..... Matthew Sprange from Mongoose Publishing

Thus far Wee Gamers has teased the truth from award winners, innovators, and reclusive artists. After having touched minds with someone to whom Cthulhu is a close personal friend, where is there  left to go?

Well it was obvious when the Judge Dredd Kickstarter for Mongoose came to our attention.  The only thing scarier than a great old one, Old Stoney Face Judge Dredd.  Icon of the British comic 2000AD the lawman has graced it's pages since issue 2. What well adjusted lad of a certain age hasn't read through its pages and dreamed of delivering justice at the barrel of a Lawgiver?

Well our victim today gets to do that and more.

Ai! Fhtagn! Chaosium take the Orient Express to Kickstarter

Horror on the Orient Express is a Call of Cthulhu campaign that was released in 1991 as a boxed set. And I still remember it.  Though I never bought it I did get to have a look at it.  A thing of beauty indeed.

It included a 28-page Strangers booklet, a Campaign booklet, three adventure books, a 28-page Player's Handouts booklet, cardstock maps of the train, and various other maps and handout material. Everything you needed.

And it got rave reviews.

Now Chaosium have opened the portal to call upon great Cthulhu to get his Fhtagn on in Kickstarter!

Cthulhu meets Ireland with the help of a local author

"Come Fairies, take me out of this dull world, for I would ride with you upon the wind and dance upon the mountains like a flame!" —William Butler Yeats

Mysteries of Ireland, a 104 pages. 8.5 x 11" Perfect-Bound paperback written by a local archaeologist and Table Top North member, Colin Dunlop, has been published by Chaosium.  Colin has written quite a number of Call of Cthulhu scenarios, including competition scenarios for Q-Con.  Really glad to see his talent recognised by Chaosium and we can think of no better a person to write this book.

Privateer Press has announced that its War Room app is now available for download on iOS. The app will be appearing in the Google Play store and Kindle as well.

Flames of War update on August Releases

Flames of War letting everyone know there will be a slight delay with the planned August releases.  They said

"With the overwhelming demand for the new painted terrain, we have decided to rearrange the dates for our planned August releases. We have done this so the extra stock has time to arrive. None of the releases planned for this month have disappeared; the release dates have just been rearranged.

We are working hard to increase the quantity of both European House three and four, as right now we could ship double the planned run but simply don’t have the time to product that many in the current timeframe. Our best advice to you right now is to check with your local Flames Of War stockist on what stock they are currently expecting (they need to have that confirmed from their local Battlefront office) and let them know what you definitely want as far ahead of time as possible."
